Open standards for the entire building's lifecycle
Open standards for the entire building's lifecycle
These issues are central to the work with the UN's sustainable development goal 11 which concerns cities and communities. buildingSMART Norway aligns with the recommendations from Bygg21, and supports the use of enriched BIM through all phases of the construction process, and also the creation of a digital twin for construction and to be used in the building's operational phase and during renovation. Being able to digitally track, verify and document properties in individual components of buildings is central when we build the cities and communities of the future. It creates transparency and open standards ensure lasting verifiability throughout the building's lifespan.
The key to a sustainable construction and real estate industry and the transition to circular economy is that development is based on open standards and machine-readable data. Therefore, buildingSMART Norway is working to adopt open standards and create digital collaboration from a lifespan perspective among actors throughout the value chain. This ties into the work with the UN's sustainable development goal 9 on industry, innovation, and infrastructure, where a central component is technology as a basis for the underlying infrastructure.

buildingSMART organises various activities in the professional network and holds open webinars on relevant topics. We wish to be part of creating a dynamic Norwegian ecosystem where we highlight best practices from our members and partners for the benefit of the industry as a whole.
Here are some examples specifically related to sustainability and circular economy:
buildingSMART Norway professional Wednesday #4: Open standards in a life cycle perspective with Cathrine Barth and Espen Schulze ;
buildingSMART Norway professional Wednesday #14: Open standards as the key to the circular economy;
Product domain how we utilise PDT and therefore open the way to machine-readable information in a building's life cycle as a basis for circular economy;

The UN Sustainable Development Goal 17 focuses on collaboration to achieve the goals that are central. For buildingSMART Norway, it is particularly important during the period 2020/2021 to strengthen collaboration with relevant organizations in the industry to stand together in promoting sustainable development. As part of buildingSMART International, we are involved in influencing the development of open standards at a global level, and we are contributing to raising sustainability on the agenda within the organization.
buildingSMART Norway collaborates with a number of organizations to ensure sustainable development in the construction industry. Our goal for the coming years is to continue to cooperate with these actors and create common relevant activities that drive change. The cooperation agreements should be anchored and be concrete, measurable, and accessible.
